Classes

Intermediate
You've been dancing for a while, you've got 6-count Lindy under your belt and are working on your 8-count and possibly Charleston. You know how to do a swing-out, and while it may not be the most polished, with a little practice and plenty of social dancing at events like these you'll be well on your way to becoming an awesome dancer!
Equivalent class level: Sugar Swing 2

You've got a bit more experience under your belt; 6-count and 8-count Lindy, as well as Charleston and possibly even Balboa are at your command and you feel comfortable moving from dance to dance. You've likely been to a few workshops and/or exchanges before, perhaps even travelling to larger events in Vancouver, Seattle, or elsewhere.

Door Swings out

Balboa Advanced (Nicole & Birkley): It's assumed you know the come-around, in-outs, and bal toss-out for this class. If you don't - check out the Balboa Intro class! Over one fine hour of your life, you'll learn some great bal moves together with advanced technique, inspired by the Bal comps at ILHC and All Balboa Weekend. Nicole and Birkley are teaching this class - and they'll give no second rate effort here!

Dean & Jewel (Marlaena & Birkley): What's up with Dean Collins and Jewel McGowan and why should you care? For one, Jewel's swivels are iconic and beautiful. If all a lady did on the dance floor was swivel awesomely, every partner would be happy. Secondly, Dean was a great choreographer and dance, and was featured in many films. He has a graceful, smooth, and controlled presence on the floor... bringing a refreshing grace to the Lindy Hop world. So for one hour, let Marlaena and Birkley introduce some Dean and Jewel into your dancing! http://www.swingnick.com/212/dean-and-jewel-the-legacy/

Jazz for Men (Birkley & Tom): Do boys suck at solo jazz? Hell no! Let two of Alberta's aspiring vintage jazz dancers inspire your dancing, Birkley and Tom. Tom's known for learning choreography lightning-fast, and for having a large repertoire of solo jazz moves. Birkley's been solo jazzing for nearly 10 years ago, and has choreographed fine numbers for local dance studios, arts-oriented schools, and in Mad Cat Swing. Men, we need to unite and show those ladies who's boss!

Air Steps Training (Julie, Birkley, Sierra, & Read): Herrang 2011 was a great experience for Julie and Birkley, and they brought back much knowledge about air steps. Most importantly, they've realized there's a huge gap of knowledge in Alberta of how to go about training in air steps. The plan is to work through 1-2 air steps and focus on the idea of breaking down any airstep in order to safely execute it, spot it, and rehearse it. Along with their Mad Cat Swing colleagues, Read and Sierra!

Partner Charleston (Dave & Tasha): Expand your repetoire with some fun side by side and tandem Charleston moves. Learn some of our favorite side by side variations, breaks, tandem transitions and flashy tandem moves.
